AN ANTHOLOGY OF LOVE STORIES ALMOST NEVER TOLD
Inspired by the recent boom in romance literature and the popularity of #BookTok, Hinge presents No Ordinary Love.
A digital and printed zine that celebrates the beauty of two people overcoming the “icks” and pressures for perfection during the early stages of dating.
Six novellas written by six leading literary figures, Roxane Gay, R. O. Kwon, Oisín Mckenna, John Paul Brammer, Brontez Purnell, and Isle Mcelroy. We dive into the tangled love journeys of six couples from the United States and the United Kingdom, navigating the wild terrain of love. Each story is a real and raw exploration of compromise, acceptance, growth, and camouflage in chaos.
No Ordinary Love draws visual inspiration from school textbooks - the sincere artifacts that educated us about the world and gave us an opportunity to form our own opinions and observations.
We also see Cupid following along with the audience, re-learning what modern love is through the twists and turns in each story. Visually we lean into the various nuances and layers of love because, favouring notions of self-love, acceptance and re-education over traditional happy endings - opting for imperfect beginnings instead.
This evolving perspective has been greatly influenced by the #BookTok community, creating a dynamic space for exploring contemporary romance themes. Their vibrant engagement offers a natural entry point for our zine, seamlessly connecting with the modern discourse on love.
